Pacific Northwest Opera will be presenting Richard Strauss's Ariadne auf Naxo.. In it, the wealthiest man in Vienna has commissioned a tragic opera called "Ariadne auf Naxos" to impress his guests, and also hired a comedia dell'arte troop to entertain them. He then decides that in order to finish by 9 pm in time for the fireworks he has planned, the tragedy and the comedy must be performed together, at the same time, on the same stage. Needless-to-say, there erupts great consternation and chaos. The music is brilliant, filled with wit and great passion.
