Did you know that Yaupon Holly is the only Native North American plant that contains caffeine? Or that instead of decking the halls with boughs of American Holly you can make a delicious tea with their leaves? Come join Katherine Gividen as she guides you through this fun, informative, and interactive presentation. Learn how to prepare a dessert with fresh blackberries and elderflower liqueur. Enjoy fresh baked bread with muscadine jelly. Learn how to make appetizing tonics, teas and recipes using ingredients you can find by taking a walk in the woods.

Katherine Gividen is president of the Louisiana Master Naturalists of Greater Baton Rouge and an Executive Chef with the American Culinary Federation. She is also past president of the Louisiana Hiking Club.

She suggests the book, Edible Plants of the Gulf South by Charles Allen, Harry Winters, and Andrew Allen as a primer for those who are interested in learning more about edible plants in Louisiana.
