RCGA's 173rd Annual Meeting and Dinner

The RCGA held its 173rd annual meeting and dinner at the Chase Park Plaza Hotel, Thursday, January 21, 2009. Guests enjoyed a cocktail reception and then a splendid dinner featuring entertainment and honoring Washington University's chancellor, Dr. Mark Wrighton.

Right Arm of St. Louis Award
This year’s Right Arm of St. Louis Award was presented to Washington University Chancellor Mark Wrighton. Mark was elected as chief executive of the University in 1995. University accomplishments during his tenure include a more than two-fold increase in undergraduate applications. Under Mark's skillful guidance, the University has become a renowned leader in working with both the St. Louis and world communities to improve the quality of our lives through educational, green, and science initiatives.

Entertainment for the RCGA Annual Meeting and Dinner spotlighted The Second City, the nationally known, long-running improvisational comedy group which originated in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood in the late 1950s. Second City has played to sold-out venues all over the country over the past 50 years. They have performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., the Performance Arts Academy in Sydney, Australia, and many other venues.

The RCGA enjoys a proud history dating back to 1836, when rapid growth led business and civic leaders to establish the original St. Louis Chamber of Commerce, which today stands at 4,000 members. Over the years, the name has changed, but the mission remains consistent: Unite the St. Louis region’s business community and engage dynamic business and civic leadership to develop and sustain a world-class economy and community.
