Pre- Hooked on Hope Luncheon at Coral Ridge Country Club for 2010 Women of the Year
On January 14, a luncheon for the honorees along with her hostesses and liaison was sponsored by Lorraine Thomas at the Coral Ridge Country Club. The luncheon was co-chaired by Reba Amdur and Johanna Maytin. In addition to learning about the duties and responsibilities of their positions, the ladies were introduced to Lucy Schroeders of Jon Paul Jewelers who showed off the new medallion each of the honorees will receive.
The theme of the Women of the Year Luncheon this year is Hooked on Hope (hope to finding a cure for cancer) and will be held at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort on April 7, 2010. Honoring 12 non-profit organizations, the luncheon is the only one that highlights the achievements of other charitable organizations in Broward County. President Lorraine Thomas stated, "The luncheon was the brainchild of Ellie Gertz in the 1980s and as a testiment to her, this year marks our 28th annual event. We're excited this year to have such wonderful groups represented."
The organizations being honored are: Childrens Home Society (Teri Lurie, honoree), Cystis Fibrosis, Gold Coast Guild (Eunice Mosher), Forever Family (Jeanette Sparano), Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge (Connie Christensen), Kids in Distress (Lesley Mitchell Jones), The Opera Society (Patricia Rowe), Pinion, Inc. (Linda Rae Spauling White), The Poverello Center (Lucinda Golfin Ortigao), Royal Dames of Cancer Research (Nell Lewis McGuire), Symphony of the Americas Society (Carole Nugent), Women & Wishes (Marion Applegate), and Women in Distress Auxiliary (Sylvia Mansons).
Broward Health is the presenting sponsor of the event. Munoz Photographers has graciously donated their photography services for the honorees' portraits. The MC this year will be Tony Segretto. Connie Chaney, Debbie Dolchin and Jan Handley are the luncheon co-chairs.
